OceanGov: International Symposium 15 – 17 November 2017 in Tenerife

From 15th – 17th November 2017 the COST Action Ocean Governance for Sustainability meets in Tenerife for an international symposium. Hosted by the Universidad de La Laguna by our Local Organiser José Pascual-Fernández and his team, all attendees are looking forward to a close-meshed and exciting scientific programme. A joint network dinner on the evening of the first day of the event creates times and space for exchanging ideas and plans in an informal setting for our international network members.
On 15th November the event kicks off with a Welcome Session by the Principal of the University La Laguna, Sr. Dr. Francisco Almeida Rodríguez, a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Canarian government Sr. D. Narvay Quintero Castañeda, as well as Sr. D. Luis J. López-Abellán, Director of the Canary Island Oceanographic Institute. They are followed by a few joint words by the Local Organiser Prof. Dr. José Pascual-Fernández and the Action´s Chair Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge.
The welcome note is followed by presentations of two keynote speakers: Prof. Philip Weaver (Seascape Consultants Ltd, UK) and Dr. Beatriz Martinez Romera (CEVIA, DK).
Philip Weaver will share with us the status of policy developments in the field of deep sea mining.
Beatriz Martinez Romera´s concerns ocean governance in the age of climate change and sustainable development .
Core Group, MC Meeting, and Workshops
The morning of 16th November sees meetings of the Core Group as well as the Management Committee of the Action taking place. A podiums discussion among all working group leaders will add additional value to scientific discussions and network planning. These events are framed by the main focus of this symposium on the production of publications by the Action´s 6 working groups: WG 1 Land-Sea Interaction, WG 2 Area-Based Management, WG 3 Seabed Resource Management, WG 4 Nutrition Security and Food Systems, WG 5 Ocean, Climate Change, and Acidification, WG 6 Fisheries Governance.
